Not everyday is fashion blessed with the heritage of such a talented, creative and elegant designer, like Oscar de la Renta was. The entire fashion world is mourning the loss of one of its most talented designers of all time, as the designer passed away at his home on Monday, October 20, 2014, surrounded by family and friends.
We will not be blessed with new creations from the designer, but Oscar’s values and spirit will continue to endure. He was a very influential designer that shaped fashion as we know it ever since its defining moments in the late 60’s.
From chic daytime outfits to fantastic red carpet gowns, Oscar de la Renta was well-known for the volumes, embroideries and vibrant colors he used. “I like light, color, luminosity. I like things full of color and vibrant,” he said.
His latest work of art was Amal Alamuddin’s wedding dress, created specially for the big moment she said “I do” to George Clooney. His creations go way back, they made first ladies like Laura Bush and (recently) Michelle Obama glow in fabulous creations. Hollywood actresses, Sandra Bullock and Penelope Cruz, wore his designs on the red carpet and the list goes on. Even Carrie Bradshaw wore his gowns in “Sex and the City”, where she compared his designs to poetry.
Let’s take a look back in time and remember some of Oscar de la Renta’s best designs, worn by celebrities.
